Before Independence, all the superior establishments in India had a board hanging outside which read, ‘Dogs & Indians Not Allowed!’… A simple symbol to display the tyranny and autocratic ways of the British rule.

Today, I post this to make all those who are not wealthy and without the looks, realize it now and realize it today before it’s too late- that you have no right to fall in love! Not at all, you there the girl with lotsa pimples, you the dude with only a kancil, you the gal with godzilla-hips and the dude with round round teddy belly… YOU ALL ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE IN LOVE!!!

We live in the age where love (as in wholehearted, fully-devoted, emotion-filled love ya) can be compromised for cholesterol! Nehhh, you dun have to give it your all, there is no risk of losing the fat-guy anyway, who’s gonna steal him away? Another hot babe? Neh, and if he does go away, good-riddance right???

Reminds me what Tom Cruise once said, ‘with money, you could buy the greatest of love!’

If the girl’s hot, the guy would take care of her so much, where she’s going? who she’s meeting? is she cheating behind his back? Does she really feel the love for him? Why doesn’t she bother about how he feel? So much worries and if the gal’s ugly, it’s ok!!! She wouldn’t cheat coz who would want her anyway, right???

Hopeless romantics are truly hopeless for believing that love as they envisioned and give does exist, it doesn’t people… till you aren’t rich &/or be hunky, you don’t deserve whole-hearted love, consider yourself lucky if you’re not treated like trash…

Gals, if you don’t have the 36-24-36 figure &/or looks that makes dudes drool… you don’t deserve devotion and caring love. Who cares if you can cook and really build a family… That’s immaterial!!!

You know phrases like ‘I’d give my life for you’, ‘I’ll walk a thousand miles for you’ etc etc is actually a whole load of bull laced in movies by directors to cater and build dreams of the hopeless romantic who is sitting watching it while sniffing away!

Wake up numb-nuts!!! Or you’d pay a hefty price all your life, you either buck-up or get out!!! You will have constant heart-ache, being treated like a piece of dispensable trash, or to really nail it on your thick skull, the only difference between you and a toilet paper is… you actually breath!!! Voila!!!

Open Letter to Barack Hussein Obama, President-elect of the United States of America

Dear Mr. President,

I did not vote for you in the Presidential Election because I am Malaysian. But I consider myself one of your constituents because what you do or say will affect me and my country as well.

I welcome your promise to change. Certainly your country, the United States of America need a lot of changes. That is because America and Americans have become the best hated people in the world. Even Europeans dislike your arrogance. Yet you were once admired and liked because you freed a lot of countries from conquest and subjugation.

It is the custom on New Year’s day for people to make resolutions. You must have listed your good resolutions already. But may I politely suggest that you also resolve to do the following in pursuit of Change.

1) Stop killing people. The United States is too fond of killing people in order to achieve its objectives. You call it war, but today’s wars are not about professional soldiers fighting and killing each other. It is about killing people, ordinary innocent people by the hundreds of thousands. Whole countries will be devastated. War is primitive, the cavemen’s way of dealing with a problem. Stop your arms build up and your planning for future wars.

2) Stop indiscriminate support of Israeli killers with your money and your weapons. The planes and the bombs killing the people of Gaza are from you.

3) Stop applying sanctions against countries which cannot do the same against you. In Iraq your sanctions killed 500,000 children through depriving them of medicine and food. Others were born deformed. What have you achieved with this cruelty? Nothing except the hatred of the victims and right-thinking people.

4) Stop your scientists and researchers from inventing new and more diabolical weapons to kill more people more efficiently.

5) Stop your arms manufacturers from producing them. Stop your sales of arms to the world. It is blood money that you earn. It is un-Christian.

6) Stop trying to democratize all the countries of the world. Democracy may work for the United States but it does not always work for other countries. Don’t kill people because they are not democratic. Your crusade to democratize countries has killed more people than the authoritarian Governments which you overthrew. And you have not succeeded anyway.

7) Stop the casinos which you call financial institutions. Stop hedge funds, derivatives and currency trading. Stop banks from lending non-existent money by the billions. Regulate and supervise your banks. Jail the miscreants who made profits from abusing the system.

Sign the Kyoto Protocol and other international agreements.

9) Show respect for the United Nations.

I have many other resolutions for change which I think you should consider and undertake. But I think you have enough on your plate for this 2009th year of the Christian Era.

If you can do only a few of what I suggest you will be remembered by the world as a great leader. Then the United States will again be the most admired nation. Your embassies will be able to take down the high fences and razor-wire coils that surround them.

May I wish you a Happy New Year and a great Presidency.

This article was emailed recently by one of my friends… instead of forwarding like I usually do, thought of posting this up for everyone’s benefit.

NOTE: I am not sure of the author and would like to disclose that this article was not written by me…

DID I MARRY THE RIGHT PERSON?

During one of our seminars, a woman asked a common question. She said,’How do I know if I married the right person?’

I noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so I said, ‘It depends. Is that your husband?’ In all seriousness, she answered ‘How do you know?’

Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it’s weighing on your mind.

Here’s the answer.
EVERY relationship has a cycle. In the beginning, you fell in love with your spouse / partner . You anticipated their call, wanted their touch, and liked their idiosyncrasies (unconventional behavior/habit).

Falling in love with your spouse wasn’t hard. In fact, it was a
completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn’t have to DO anything. That’s why it’s called ‘falling’ in love… Because it’s happening TO YOU.

People in love sometimes say, ‘I was swept of my feet.’ Think about the imagery of that expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something came along and happened TO YOU.

Falling in love is easy. It’s a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few years of marriage, the euphoria (excitement) of love fades..

It’s the natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouse’s idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts.

The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship, but if you think about your marriage, you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage.

At this point, you and/or your spouse might start asking, ‘Did I marry the right person?’ And as you and your spouse reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when marriages breakdown. People blame their spouse for their unhappiness and look outside their marriage for fulfillment.

Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most obvious. But sometimes people turn to work, a hobby, a friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances.

But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your marriage. It lies within it. I’m not saying that you couldn’t fall in love with someone else. You could!!!

And TEMPORARILY you’d feel better. But you’d be in the same situation a few years later. Because (listen carefully to this):

THE KEY TO SUCCEEDING IN MARRIAGE IS NOT FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON; IT’S LEARNING TO LOVE THE PERSON YOU FOUND.

SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. It’ll NEVER just happen to you. You can’t ‘find’ LASTING love. You have to ‘make’ it day in and day out. That’s why we have the expression ‘the labor of love.’ Because it takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it takes WISDOM.

You have to know WHAT TO DO to make your marriage work.
Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things you can do (with or without your spouse) to succeed with your marriage..

Just as there are physical laws of the universe (such as gravity), there are also laws for relationships. Just as the right diet and exercise program makes you physically stronger, certain habits in your relationship WILL make your marriage stronger. It’s a direct cause and effect. If you know and apply the laws, the results are predictable… you can ‘make love’.

Love in marriage is indeed a ‘decision’… Not just a feeling.
Remember this always:

‘God determines who walks into your life. It is up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.’

Defining Marriage

It’s been a long time since I actually wrote, been pretty busy with so many things happening, nevertheless, had a wonderful conversation from the airport to bro’s house with Abe Burcin (Khan & Sons’ Turkish supplier who has become part of the family)

He has looks that makes women melt and slang that makes me laugh!!!, like in Thai, Pierce Brosnan speaks Turkish in the movies.

Anywho, he spoke bout marriage today, of all topics cause my bro told him earlier that I am getting married soon… So like the other 3/4 million folks who spoke to me about marriage, his is latest and most unique I’d say…

‘Love in marriage is like air-con in car’, he said… and you could see the dumbfounded look on my face, I wondered if it meant that marriage is hot at times and cold most times… and he went on to explain… (thank God!)

I couldn’t place his slang here but the simplest explanation would be, a car is dysfunctional without the basics such as tyres, engine, steering and brake. But having air-conditioning in car is a compliment to it… to have a lovely, comfortable and relaxing journey, you need air-con, but without which, the car could still function but with lots of discomfort…

Like that, a loving marriage makes a whole lot difference in one’s life but should never be the main criteria, the main criteria is the tyre and engine, the ability to know your responsibility as a husband and to ensure that you have a marriage where both parties plays their role…

Things that are blinded by love in the beginning are the same things that would make a vast difference and affect the livelihood of a marriage, this could not be far from the truth as witnessed by me among people who are married with kids calling their marriage off due to things that are absurd and unreasonable!!!

That being said, it is paramount that one should do all they can to live by the quote ‘it is not the destination, but the journey that matters’… have a safe trip, Godspeed and keep the air-con on buddy…

Serendipity

This movie sits at the top of my list for romantic movies… reasons are obvious if you’ve had the opportunity to watch this movie, nevertheless, I love it for the acts of serendipiousity (I know- Jonathan created it ) that keeps emerging and at the end, when you leave it to fatum (destiny), you’d be amazed yourself at how your faith leads to a realization of live itself…

Stumbled upon this clip of the moment just before the ending of the movie, it’s not a spoiler even if you haven’t watched the movie yet, and if you haven’t and you are a hopeless romantic, I strongly recommend you to watch it!

Living Expectation-less…

Expectations… all of us have them, a business owner expects his business to flourish and prosper. Parents expects their child to one day grow and be a successful person. An employee expects that one day, he will be a corporate figure. A wife expects her husband to be loyal and love her all her life.

This is truly natural, expectations gives us the hopeful feeling, it signifies our wish and not to forget, it is the foundation for our dreams. Having expectations is something good, it keeps us going when things seems to go on the opposite direction.

Nevertheless, there comes a time when expectations become the poison of one’s life. This happens primarily when expectations are not met regularly due to reasons beyond your control.

For example, vendors are expected to deliver excellence to an organization but they don’t meet the benchmark or bosses that are expected to promote hard-working employees but instead they promote another person. How about a husband that destroys expectations of loving endlessly when he commits an affair? Don’t forget at the same time, friends that are expected to stand by someone in times of need.

I only touched one factor beyond a person’s control, the human factor, there are other various factors such as economic, social, environmental, political etc.

Expectations that are not met holds as much impact as the benefits outlined in second paragraph. They take away hopeful feelings, does not personify any wishes and ultimately, collapses the foundation to our dreams. I am sure readers are already going ‘hmmmm’… agreeing to the statement I just made.

Realizing this fact, my advise for a truly happy life would be to live life without expectation on other factors because when they are not met, the effect is much more harmful compared to expectations that are met… it diminishes and takes a whole lot more to recover…

Expectations are crucial but let it be of your own… for yourself, by yourself! Like I always say, at the end of the day, there is only one person that will always be there for you, every step of the way, every arduous moments… yourself

Professional Communications Dilemma

Communication is the integral element of any relationship, be it our personal life or a professional life. The importance of communication is mentioned in every publication that talks about relationship, business, marketing, sales, psychology and many more.

Businesses today are facing an era of revolution, where we could be replying to an e-mail, answering a mobile phone and seeing the RSS Feed of today’s headline- ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!

This has resulted in the depletion on the quality of communication itself, instead of replying a client’s email professionally, we end up responding like we would have to a friend’s email and thus jeopardizing the reputation of the organization we represent.

Some thoughts for you would be- Can you afford to sound like a teenager when your client sits on the board of a Fortune 500 company? Imagine losing a multi-million dollar deal due to poor communication? Would you risk spending million dollars on A&P only to be tarnished by your staff member?

Communication is the mirror to the reputation you represent… And reputation is to be guarded with life… You take years to build up your reputation, and it only takes one incident that takes away your credibility and ultimately, your client away…

I have seen some emails transmitted from Multi-National Corporations to their clients and they certainly do not meet even the minimum requirement of Professional Communication, phone conversations amidst having a call center where everything is scripted also at times makes me wonder if they engaged a professional to prepare the tele-script!

Asians generally and Malaysians specifically do not demand the communication to be professional but when you are talking about being a nation that is thriving on globalization and being the hub for anything and everything under the sun, you have to start thinking on a global basis.

You don’t have to be a million dollar company to portray the image of one, you don’t have to be a celebrity to be professionally attended to by your service provider. It simply takes a shift in mindset and that will go a long way…

Datuk Shahrukh Khan… maa ehhhhh!!!

Malaysia has done it again! The Malaysia Boleh spirit lives on folks. The latest feat is awarding a Bollywood Superstar with an esteemed honor that carries the title Datuk!

My dad, once said, throw a pebble on any KL street and it will land on a Dato’s head! Well dad, 5 years down the road, throw a pebble on global landmarks and it might land on the head of another Dato! Sorry Dato’ Jean Todt…

Honorific titles are meant to elevate one’s status, a pride to be treasured and evident of one’s contribution to mankind… But Malaysian honorific titles are accorded to those with the moolah to pay for it or be the king of shaky bom bom (Daud Kilau) and recently, anyone that gets minimum fortnight coverage on press or media…

The game of gaining popularity has apparently become the pursuit of popularity to those giving out the awards, the apparent attitude of ’saya lagi terrer (hebat)’ has become the new agenda in giving out the awards.

‘Dia bagi Jean Todt, dia tu bagi kat Michelle Yeoh tapi saya lagi terrer… saya bagi kat Shahrukh Khan haaaaa’ and there will be 12 courts jesters laughing like hyenas in support to the decision!

With this popularity gesture, it is the nation’s honor and pride that is tarnished. A medal or honor recipient should be proud of receiving the title, but receiving a title that is deemed to not hold any value results in disrespectful gesture by the recipient.

Do you honestly think Shahrukh Khan will be referred as Datuk Shahrukh Khan wherever he goes in the world now? Forget globally, even in his homeland India, he will not be referred as Datuk Shahrukh Khan!

What about honoring your host and receiving the award personally? I am not sure on this cause as I type this, approximately 8 hours ago, Shahrukh Khan was strutting his bolly stuff on stage in Singapore… But will he be here personally in Malacca to accept the honor adorned on him by one of Malaysian’s ruler? Flip any press release and tell me if you see foreign media referring Jean Todt as Dato’ Jean Todt?

The same personality would have given enough due respect should they be lucky enough to attain medal of honors that are regarded highly exclusive such as Knighthood from England, then you might just witness the re-branding of these personalities and they will forever be honoring the Orders of Chivalry- thus the name will be Sir Shahrukh Khan.

The Orders of Chivalry are granted to those deserving individuals, truly deserving individuals who has made significant contribution to the country, community and mankind in whole. The priority of granting this noble titles goes to British citizens… for more info, refer to website such as UK Honours System (http://www.honours.gov.uk/). It even lists the remarks on why this person was accorded with the noble title to ensure fair and justice to all.

In conclusion, it saddens me to see that we’re witnessing a table where the stakes are country’s honor and pride, the glitz and glam should be left to where it belongs- the showbiz and the silver screen. Let’s look at rewarding the people who has made significant contribution to the country and to make the rewards truly exclusive and not a mockery…
